I thought I knew
I thought I could read the signs
After all, how hard could it be?
Just letters and numbers.
I thought I could tell the time
Lift my eyes and read the clouds
After all how hard could it be?
Just changes in hues of light.
I thought I would be there by now
I thought I could get there somehow.
After all, how hard could it be?
I had my legs for the journey.
I thought we'd never have this conversation
You knew me, I knew you.
After all, how hard could it be?
We said we were friends.
And the paper trail goes on and on
I guess I was wrong about many things.
I gave meaning to meaningless things
Gave thought to pointless things
And after 24 hours I sat face in hands
Realising without you,
Everything is vanity.
