Thoughts on Zimmerman and Trayyvon
There is no dividing wall of hostility in Christ Jesus. There is no Jew or Gentile, no male or female, no black or white. No Zimmerman or Trayyvon.
"Eph 2:13-14 But now in Christ Jesus you who were once afar off are made near by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, He making us both one, and He has broken down the middle wall of partition between us,"
We are hurt by people, their selfish actions, their pride; we hurt people the same way. There are some actions that make forgiveness a hard pill to swallow because we are truly hurt. We must remember Christ in these situations for in the cross, He unites the offender and the offended and gives them life the same way He united God and Man. Only if we could come to the cross!
"2Co 5:16-21 So as we now know no one according to flesh, but even if we have known Christ according to flesh, yet now we no longer know Him so. So that if any one is in Christ, that one is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation; whereas God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and putting the word of reconciliation in us.
Then we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as God exhorting through us, we beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. "
The Zimmerman verdict has surely hurt many African Americans and Africans the world over because a white man has walked free after he murdered a black teenager but we who now see the world in the eyes of Christ must not take the sides of race, but be found in the love of Christ, where we are forgiven, where we can forgive, where we are comforted, where we can comfort. Where we can receive love, where we can give love.

Roots
The church in Corinth had "serious" sins. Look, there were divisions, a man was sleeping with his father's wife, there was carousing, gluttony...name it! Paul's antidote to this is that "don't you know you're in Christ?" In essence, he reveals the Christ in them.
What's "strange" is that in Corinth, there was a free flow of the gifts of the Spirit! I mean look at 1 Cor 12... tongues, healing, wisdom, knowledge..name it. Why wasn't their behaviour hindering the flow of the Spirit? (???)
It's like Paul's concern was that they didn't know who they were!
But guess who Paul calls "bewitched" and "foolish". The church in Galatia. Why? For they were trying to be absolved by works of the law in this particular case - circumcision.
However, even in this church the Spirit was flowing but they seemed to be crossing over to another gospel. He asks - Gal 3:5 Then He supplying the Spirit to you and working powerful works in you, is it by works of the law, or by hearing of faith?
Both these churches had the Spirit flowing. However the common issue according to Paul is that they were departing from their roots and identity. Corinth's actions were forgetful of their identity in Christ. Galatia's faith was forgetful of the gospel of Christ.
Now for us, God have mercy. We are grappling with going back to the roots. Going back to who we are. Because if we do not know who we are in Christ, we shall be caught in the same error both these churches had, one of living according to the flesh, the other of believing according to the flesh and falling into strife, divisions and exalting everything else apart from Christ.
The root and identity is Christ. May He be formed in us! Colossians 2.

Think on these things
What if our minds shut up for a moment
Put all our endless bickering and muttering to the noiselessness of a tomb
What if we stopped pursuing that next idea, formula, strategy,goal
Stopped riding that thought wave, interrupted that circuit of impulse
And allowed a moment of silence.
Not just me, I mean all of us.
What if, we all let our minds be still,
...and let our hearts speak.
Motive, reason, lust, ground out beyond a crust
To the edge of a space of innocence
Where the dimmed light and silenced voice of peace,
Patience, mercy and kindness could be given a chance to rise again.
We might understand that beneath layers of Gucci,
Or perhaps when there were no layers,
That the blood flowing in these vessels did not know of our
Motive, or our hatred, or our jealousy or our plotting
The blood just flowed.
It did not know of knives being lunged into chests,
Triggers releasing copper from fiery barrels
Words maiming and failing kinsmen, sons and friends
Turning them into foes, assassins, enemies of the state
The blood we all share turning against each other because of
What our minds told us they saw.
They saw short, tall, weak, strong, stupid, clever
Ugly, beautiful, large, small etcetera
Spurred by want, selfishness, pride, arrogance, ego
All words that spoke but did not tell.
A thousand years of philosophy
And we still cannot learn the simple lessons
Still cannot love my neighbour as myself
Especially if he looks different, smells different, thinks different
Still cannot turn the other cheek, because the pain hurt
Still cannot give before I receive because what will I give with?
A thousand years of thought and ideas and we can't figure out
That the solution to the problem does not begin with the mind
But is hid in the boiling mass
Of red muscle called heart.
We forgot that out of the heart flow the issues of life
Life never knew a philosophy,a religion, a dogma of rights or wrongs
Life was never set in stone
Life moved, breathed, had a being.
Life needed a change of heart.
Life needed Him for He was life, He is life
And in Him we live, we breathe and move and have our being
And we cannot deny Him
For when we do, we deny our own life
Emmanuel- God with us.
Perhaps when our hearts have a change of life
Or lives can have a change of heart
Then our minds can attune anew to this life
For the old life is decayed, rotting
With fresh ideas of inventing restlessness and death
And only the new life can let the mind be still
And think on these things
"whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."

Grounded
I am sure you have those moments as well, you sit down in the empty spaces of your mind and think about how aloof your dreams are, how near your failure is, how nagging your guilt feels, how unreal your redemption seems...
You have to choose. There are two people separated by the train of thought. They both have the same face, same name.
But, only one man can leave the table. As long as the two still sit together, your dreams remain aloof, your failure is breathing down your neck, your guilt won't let go and you will want to ignore your redemption. One man cannot desire to do evil and agree with the other who desires good. One man cannot desire to serve God, while the other desires to serve himself.
One man, one thought, one vision, one purpose; only one man must leave the table of thought because a double minded man shall never be stable. So you must choose.
And we must choose. How do we stand and where do we stand? All else is sinking sand except Christ the solid rock.
Matthew 14:27-31
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

The Christian Call to One Another.
All the words below are not mine, rather they are from Holy Writ. This is a call to church in it's real sense : Christian community, brotherhood, kinship in Christ. The keywords you will notice repeating themselves are "love" and "one another". Be blessed.
Joh_13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. Joh_13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Joh_15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Joh_15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another. Act_19:38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.
Rom_12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Rom_13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Rom_14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. Are we richly dwelling on what is part?
Why do we esteem parts and never
take the full? Why do we own corners and never take the seat? Many of us are so
richly dwelling on what is part - incomplete and forgetting the full. Lately I
realise the importance of always remembering that I am not a singular
Christian, but I am part of God's household, saved and redeemed not
individually but along with all the members who are being built up into God's
temple.
For this reason, I cease in
attaching identity as regards man but no longer regard man in the flesh - as
perhaps in terms of race, sex, rank etc. I have realised that when we say
brother or sister, it is not fancy Christianese, and indeed should not be. The
word brethren, family of God is not one of the fancy words used in
Christianity, they are not dead words, they ought to have meaning because at
one time they were practical and did have meaning.
See, in the pursuit of Christ, it
must be noted that we are actually pursuing each other (as weird as that
sounds). Whilst your decision to come to Christ was an individual decision, you
were born into a family of God, not into a school of spies who know nothing
about each other and just mind their own business. This is not Christ.
The pursuit of Christ necessitates
that we indeed must pursue each other.
Looking at the Lord's prayer for
the disciples (and all those who would believe) in John 17, Christ makes a very
important statement " Joh 17:21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are
in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may
believe that You have sent Me."
Christ continues to reveal the
fact that He and the Father are one, and He prays that this same mindset may be
alive in the ones who have already believed and are going to believe.
Not only that, the famous John
3:16 points out that God loved the world. Many times we hear our brothers say
that you can substitute "world" with your name the end being to
ascribe some level of worth to yourself, such that if it were I, I might say -
For God so loved Joel that He sent His only begotten son that whoever..... This
helps many of us feel loved and appreciated by God. This is part of the story
but not the complete one.
We are saved into God's house
which is made up of God's family. It requires a pursuit of one another. Eph
2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens
with the saints, and of the household of God;. In the same way, we are all
members of the body of Christ " Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body,
of his flesh, and of his bones.", "Rom 12:5 so we, the many, one body are in Christ, and
members each one of one another. " We are actually members of the Lord's
body.
Seeing then we are members of His
body and therefore one another we must learn to uphold what is the greatest.
While God does give each member a different ministry " 1Co 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.",
he requires that we have the same regard for one another, in essence we must
love one another as Christ has loved us and gave himself up for us collectively.
Below are some Biblical reminders
on this very thing.
Therefore be ,of the same mind one toward another, not minding the high
things, but with the lowly going along; become not wise in your own conceit; (Rom
12:16), then fulfill my joy, that you may be like-minded, having the same love,
being of one accord and of one mind.(Php 2:2 ) Let nothing be done through
strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better
than themselves.( Php 2:3) Do not let each man look upon his own things, but
each man also on the things of others.(Php 2:4)
There desire is therefore ,To no one owe anything, except to love one another; for he who is loving the other--law he hath fulfilled,( Romans 13:8), also, wherefore receive ye one another, according as also the Christ did receive us, to the glory of God.(Romans 15:7) That there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same anxiety for one another,( 1Co 12:25).

To sum it all, in the words of
Paul
1Co 13:8 The love doth never fail; and whether there
be prophecies, they shall become useless; whether tongues, they shall cease;
whether knowledge, it shall become useless; 1Co 13:9 for in part we know, and in part we prophecy;
1Co 13:10 and when that which is perfect
may come, then that which is in part shall become useless.
In fact what I believe Paul is
saying is simple, we know in part, we prophecy in part, we think we know but
our knowledge is incomplete. What then is more complete than knowledge? It is
love. If we, friends embark on proving each other wrong, talking ill, minding
our own business and not being the Samaritans we are called to, we default and
defraud one another on this thing- it is love. This is the thing that holds us
together if all else should fail.
So when you love the member of
Christ, as we have seen above, you are loving Christ which makes perfect sense
when Jesus says, whatever you do to the least of these, you have done unto me.
So, like Paul said - 1Co 13:13 And now faith, hope, and love, these three
things remain; but the greatest of these is love.

Why Hope Never Runs Dry.
Last night, I lay in my bed thinking, heart racing about the next day. It had been two months since I last went to work this year because I had been debilitated for that amount of time. I was anxious. I was breathing fast. I could not think straight. My joints were hurting a bit. I was really nervous about my first day of work this year.
Many years ago, while I was still in primary, I had similar days. There were those days when one was enjoying the holiday but had to finally quit slacking and get to school but then there were those days when again after suffering the debilitation, I would shudder at going back to school.

I would imagine how much they'd left me behind; what new conversation was going on that I was not aware of; were there mean new teachers? Was I going back during a test period? Would I do enough to be promoted to the next class?
Yes, the same way my heart raced in those days was the same way it raced yesterday. How much work will I find? Does my desk still exist? Will there be power? etc etc
I lay in bed without clear answers and could not stop this heart from racing! However, years ago considering the hurdles one would face, I wonder how I managed to continue going back to school (okay, parental guidance played a good part).
Nonetheless I discovered that surrounded with an atmosphere of hope, one cannot help oneself but press on. It is about patient confidence that a time is at hand when what we hate will be gone and what we love will be eternal. It is about looking beyond the present conditions like pain, lack, rejection, failure to a place of contentment. It is the unseen bridge between where we are and where we want to be.
Without hope, a man is as good as dead. For hope presents an oxygen mask, a reason to endure the season, a light in a blanket of darkness. When a man sees no tomorrow, he has come to the end of life.
Interestingly though, hope can run dry. When one is a subject of recurring failure, pain, lack and sickness, it is possible to get to a place of doubt, sometimes frustration, many times anger, and most times depression and then make one give up the possibility of ever getting to the place they so much desire. This can happen especially when one's object is in themselves or the conditions prevailing or anticipated.
Hope placed upon changing things is risky for it might be exhausted. However when this hope is placed upon an object that is unchangeable, unchanging then one can be sure and hope.
In this way desiring to declare more fully to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, God interposed by an oath, so that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us,which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the veil, where the Forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Heb 6:17-20
With our hope in the eternal, the unchanging, the foundation : Jesus Christ, we have reason to wake up each day regardless of the pain, uncertainty, lack, disappointment and press on because we know our hope does not stop at the physical but extends into the unseen and the eternal.
And everyone who has this hope on him purifies himself, even as that One is pure. 1Jn3:3
Why does hope never run dry? Jesus Christ. So then we wake up each day and look upon the day with a smile confident that our hope is sure and steady and that even if today we do not see deliverance, we shall see it inevitably, either in this life or in the eternal.

Death Be not Proud
Sometimes, news hits you with such a grandiose haymaker that many times you lose balance and cannot throw anything back. Sad news knows how to bring stillness while at the same time cause such turmoil.
Death is the ultimate sad news. Nothing can beat it. Forget about the small 200 million shilling debt you may be having, or perhaps that retake or that accident which damaged your car. Forget about your lack of supper or fuel, death surpasses all these.
This year has been one of those that are just well, trying, to say the least.
At the beginning of the year, I received a text from a friend. "My dad has died.".
Angst! Fury! Carnage! Such a grave statement made even more grave by just the four words and a full stop. I find it hard to explain why that statement made me solemnly sad but it was just the pure admission and perhaps resignation in it that gave my heart pangs.
Some months down the road, another text. Meanwhile, they are always texts. "My dad has died.". Again. The same words. And this time it was my cousin. I did not know how to react. I knew I had to go home and see my aunt and cousins but damn, now? I keep wondering why the same words?
Another few months down the road, we are celebrating new birth. Two new boys, twins in fact. The spirits are high. And then, first day, "Kato abuuse." (Kato has died). Darn. Insert an angry word. However, the life of Wasswa is consolation.
Sunday night,we are watching the news and a call comes in, mom picks it and goes to her bedroom. Moments later she comes with deep distress announcing "Wasswa naye abuuse!". Both twins, gone. 7 months all gone up like smoke. The beautiful boys gone. I had not even yet laid an eyes on either.
Pause.
"Kasita nze ndi mulamu." Was the consolation she gave us her younger brothers. "At least I am still alive." Heave.
Another friend lost her mum, and there I was looking awkward trying to make her feel better. Darn.
Just this week, I read about Leland Shores. He died too, pneumonia. Such a man of God, who had lived diligently for the sake of the gospel. I saw him one time at the Food Court at Garden City and wanted to go over and ask him to pray for me, since I had my issues. But I was with a friend, and he was having lunch with friends so I decided not to bother him. Leland shores was in charge of Andrew Wommack ministries in Uganda. I had also seen him last year at the Gospel Truth Seminar at Serena.
Now today in the morning, my mom tells me Bishop John Michael Mugerwa died with colleagues in an accident in Kakira, that after 30 minutes, they were still cutting out the remains of the deceased.
Pause.
Sometimes I do not get it.
All I can say is, may He comfort our hearts, the God of all comfort. I know, not one of us has not experienced this, so my thoughts are with us all.
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee

Lady Gaga's "H-I-M"
The number one song on the Billboard top ten is Lady Gaga's "Born this way". It's being top means it is getting extensive airplay on radio as well as on private players. She is delivering a message to the masses.
Gaga says, in the first line, that it does not matter if you love "him", and then goes on to say, "or capital H-I-M". In this statement, I would think, Gaga says, go ahead, you may or may not believe in "God" and then after that takes the opportunity to use "HIM" to justify certain things as I will highlight later.
She goes on to say that we were all born superstars; in essence that we were all born great and perfect. She adds and rides on the "HIM" factor by saying there is nothing wrong with loving who you are because "He" made you perfect, because after all "He" does not make mistakes.
Her chorus goes on to say that there is no other way, that we are born this way, that we are not a drag, that we are "queens", that it is okay to love ourselves the way we are. She says, that "a different lover is not a sin, believe capital H-I-M..." .
Lady Gaga is trying to kill your conscience.
She subtly tries to convince her listener that, in essence, God is not against you, and that He loves you the way you are and actually vetoes your nature, since He made you that way.
She does it subtly because she mixes truth with a lie and I am sure convinces many people that what she is saying is actually what God is saying too. Alas!!! God forbid.
The Bible clearly states, [Rom 3:10 as it is written: "There is none righteous, no not one; ] meaning, we are not born superstars. We are all born lost, in need of a saviour. The situation needs to change lest we perish.
The Bible also states that [Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me. ] meaning there is only one way and that way is not you getting comfortable about your sin or what Gaga sells on her records in the name of "HIM". Further, it matters what you believe- God exists. What you believe shapes you. What you believe influences how you live. It determines whether you become an agent of destruction or an agent of good.
God is not the author of our sin. Why would He go to great lengths [John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.]to redeem us if He invented it? God makes no one a sinner [Jas 1:13-15 Let no one being tempted say, I am tempted from God. For God is not tempted by evils, and He tempts no one.
But each one is tempted by his lusts, being drawn away and seduced by them.
Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin. And sin, when it is fully formed, brings forth death. ]
God states clearly in His word His perfect law. It shows us what is right and what is wrong. There is a distinction. It's not alright to be gay because God says so. He even warns us against such a vice and how such people only perish. It is not because of hate but because of love that He even tells us.
We are not Kings or Queens, we have no glory of our own. Only those in Christ can be said to be a Royal Priesthood. Without Christ, all our goodness or glory is like dung. Paul a man of academic accomplishment after changing says [Php 3:8 But no, rather, I also count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them to be dung, so that I may win Christ ].
The person Lady Gaga is making references to must not be confused with God, the God of Jesus Christ. No. God's word clearly differs from whoever this "HIM" is. I protest that God's name may be confused with this "HIM" and therefore cause legalism due to what she says.
I have not even analysed the entire lyrics but friends the little I have shows you how easy it is to exchange the truth for a lie. Lady Gaga is no prophet or oracle for God. The Truth is in the Word of God.[Joh 17:17 Sanctify them through Your truth. Your Word is truth. ] Gaga's word is not truth, it is a mix of lies. It is another attempt to deceive the millions blinded by music. It is sad, this song is already number one, playing in the ears of many children, many struggling with sin and unwanted urges, giving them the right to do bad in the guise of being good. There is one way to God, one Way, one Truth, one Life; Christ Jesus, not our own philosophies.
Careful what you listen to, careful what you let your children listen to. Careful, read the Word and be able to know truth and lie when you see it.
What we all need to know is, the only way is Christ- and He died, willingly laid down His life so that you may be set free from the power of sin. Accept Him and seek His Way. Sin is wrong, and good news is Christ dealt with it on the cross- [Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: ].
