Would you by denouncing Satan become saved?
The correct answer is a resounding NO.
So in the same premise, can you by denouncing Christ become unsaved?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The grace of God.
I sometimes come across people who say that Christians can lose their salvation. And for sure it a scary thought that a believer once in the grace of God can just up and leave the fellowship and denounce his faith. Why do I get scared? Because when I look at myself, I am capable of doing that, of denouncing Christ and so I become so worked up about trying to keep in the will of God and resort to keeping certain laws and standards hoping I will never come to that point.
In the same breath it reminds me of the proverbial unforgivable sin, the one where once you commit it, there is no forgiveness for you. The correct context lies with blaspheming the Holy Spirit. For a long time blaspheming the Holy Spirit meant saying bad things about God and His Son and the Holy Spirit Himself and this was so so unnerving because I was sure I had jested about God once in my ignorance. I was so afraid that I was among those who would never receive salvation.
It gets even more interesting when we find people who actually walk out on fellowship and begin denouncing Christ, the Bible and all their knowledge of God. They de-campaign the cross of Christ so rigorously you become convinced, one can lose their salvation.
Not only that the arguments people bring are scripture based and can toss you up and down in your bed if you're a Christian who is not walking in perfect obedience. Hebrews 10:26, John 15:1-2, Hebrews 6:4-6 etc.
At the end of the day, many Christians instead of continuing to do what they should do "saved by grace through faith", revert to keeping a list of commandments- things they should do in order to be safe and things they should avoid in order to be safe.
There are numerous factors that bring about this state. Translators of scripture sometimes translate according to what they think the scripture means and in essence portraying a totally wrong picture of what is being said. Take for example, John 15:2 that says every branch in me that does not bear fruit he cuts off...Many translators deem the greek word used there for cut off yet in essence it means to lift up. Contextually, and by the help of the Holy Spirit, a the branch on a vine cannot survive when on the ground, that is why if it is down it must be lifted and put back into the structure.
Another factor usually forgotten is that in essence Christ is being schizophrenic when he posits that a man can lose their salvation. Why? Because He is the same man who says He will not lose any of His. John 6:39 , Jesus says "And this is the Father's will which hath sent me,that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day."In fact before that in verse 37 He says "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me;and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."
Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition;but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
I think undue attention is given to the wrong things. While we focus on arguments of whether we have eternal security or nor , we miss out on the blessings of God and miss out on His grace. For those who believe they can unsave themselves, it is an utter impossibility. I believe that those who truly receive Christ, are always His.
The only way you commit the unforgivable sin is by not believing Christ because there is no other solution for you. Otherwise God Himself promised He will never leave us nor forsake us. So be of good courage.
And ultimately, the point should not be whether we can lose our salvation, we should look to Jesus our hope of glory to help us live lives worthy of His calling.
Peace out.
